From a Cinema Upgrade to a Whole-Home Smart Living Experience

This smart home automation project began as a home cinema upgrade before evolving into a complete smart lighting and home automation installation.

Introduced to the project through Paul at A.N.Audio during a cinema installation, we were initially asked to create mood lighting within our clients’ cinema room. Once our client experienced the difference intelligent lighting could make, it quickly became clear that the same approach could enhance other areas of the home.

Working closely together, we explored how professionally designed lighting control could improve not only the atmosphere throughout the property but also simplify everyday living. The project naturally evolved into a phased installation covering the swimming pool room, orangery, and living room.

Throughout the project, we worked alongside A.N.Audio, Gilly Todd Interiors and All Phase Electrical, ensuring every aspect of the installation was delivered seamlessly and to the highest standard.

The Challenge

Like many larger properties, the home had gradually become increasingly difficult to manage. Multiple lighting circuits spread across different rooms meant everyday tasks often involved walking around the house operating numerous switches.

The objective wasn’t simply to install smart lighting; it was to create a home that felt effortless to use.

Our client wanted technology that would disappear into the background, enhancing the ambience of each space while making the home more intuitive and enjoyable to live in.

Our Solution

To achieve this, we designed and installed an integrated smart home automation solution… built around three core technologies.

Rako Lighting Control

Rako was selected to provide intelligent lighting control throughout the property.

Rather than controlling individual light fittings, carefully programmed scenes now allow entire rooms to transform with a single button press. Whether relaxing in the evening, entertaining guests or moving between different areas of the home, lighting levels automatically adjust to create the perfect atmosphere.

The flexibility of the system also allows lighting to fade smoothly between scenes, producing a premium finish that simply isn’t possible with traditional switching.

Control4 Home Automation

Control4 provides the central platform for the smart home automation system, bringing the home’s technology together into one intuitive interface.

Lighting control integrates seamlessly with the wider smart home system, creating a consistent user experience while providing a future-ready platform that can easily expand as the property’s technology evolves.

UniFi Network Infrastructure

Every successful smart home depends on a reliable network.

To support the new automation system, we upgraded the property’s network and Wi-Fi using UniFi infrastructure, providing fast, dependable connectivity throughout the home and creating a robust foundation for all connected technology.

The completed smart home automation installation has fundamentally changed…

The new lighting scheme has enhanced three of the home’s key living spaces: the swimming pool room, orangery and living room – each carefully designed to create the perfect ambience for the way the space is used. Whether entertaining guests, relaxing in the evening or spending time with family and friends, each room can now be transformed instantly with a single button press.

Instead of operating numerous switches throughout the home, bespoke lighting scenes now create the perfect environment at the touch of a button. Combined with a reliable UniFi network and seamless Control4 integration, the technology works quietly in the background to deliver a simpler, more intuitive living experience.

Rather than becoming another piece of technology to manage, the system has become part of everyday life – adding convenience, flexibility and atmosphere while remaining effortless to use.
